One of our vendors recently said “There’s a finishing time and a quitting time.”
It was in reference to the expectations of employees in today’s marketplace. It got me thinking about ranch life and ranchers in general.
Quitting time isn’t an option when your cows depend on you for their care and health.
Quitting time isn’t an option when the fence isn’t up yet but it’s 5 pm.
Quitting time isn’t an option when the cows aren’t yet fed and you’ve had a wreck earlier in the day with water tanks.
Quitting time isn’t an option when there are cows out on the road and you were just about home.
Ranchers never live under a quitting time reality. They live under finishing time...when the job is done, is when you leave.
There’s no calendar, time clock or app that controls the day. It’s our herd that determines our day and when finishing time arrives. We’re so fortunate to have a team that loves what they do and commit to finishing the job at hand each day, whether it’s 5 pm or 11 pm. Passion and commitment like that is becoming harder to find.
We are ranchers and we are committed to finishing time, whatever hour that may come.
